Singapore Telecommunications Limited (Singtel) has won the prestigious VSAT Service Provider of the Year Award from VSAT London 2014, a premier conference organized by Informa Telecoms & Media and in partnership with Comsys. Comsys is a leading satellite research organization based in London.
Singtel Satellite is a global leader of one stop satellite communications and ICT solutions. With more than 35 years of experience in the fixed satellite services and over 20 years in mobile satellite services, we have established a satellite footprint that covers Asia, Middle East and Africa. Singtel own three teleports that point to more than 30 satellites and are supported by an extensive terrestrial network of more than 200 PoPs in over 160 global cities.
Deploying satellite communications such as Mobile Satellite services, VSAT, SAT-IP has enabled enterprises in the banking, broadcast, energy and government agencies and NGOs to reach out to remote places. Earth Observatory Singapore (EOS) has found the hybrid of Singtel VSAT and BGAN solutions are key to supporting their ongoing earthquake research that affects the region in and around Southeast Asia. The solution provided real-time monitoring and data collection of tectonic plate movements which was not made possible through manual data collection at GPS stations that are geographically dispersed throughout the Sumatra island. This has resulted in improved efficiency and savings on manpower cost which are ploughed back to critical research work. The enhanced capabilities had helped EOS to raise alarms when alerted thus saving precious lives.
Looking ahead, EOS is looking at deploying more VSAT solutions extensively to expand its network into a seismic data network.
